倫敦被世人稱(chēng)為“霧都”。
【原因】：20世紀初，倫敦人大部分都使用煤作為家居燃料，產(chǎn)生大量煙霧。這些煙霧再加上倫敦氣候，造成了倫敦“遠近馳名”的煙霞，英語(yǔ)稱(chēng)為L(cháng)ondon Fog（倫敦霧）。因此，英語(yǔ)有時(shí)會(huì )把倫敦稱(chēng)作“大煙”（The Smoke），倫敦并由此得名“霧都”。1952年12月5日至9日期間，倫敦煙霧事件令4000人死亡，政府因而于1956年推行了《空氣清凈法案》，于倫敦部分地區禁止使用產(chǎn)生濃煙的燃料。時(shí)至今日，倫敦的空氣質(zhì)量已經(jīng)得到明顯改觀(guān)。
